Job Title: Emerging Technologies Librarian

The Grande Prairie Public Library invites applications for the full-time position of Emerging Technologies Librarian. This position will commence as soon as possible.

Position

The Grande Prairie Public Library is seeking an innovative, flexible and resourceful individual to assume the position of Emerging Technologies Librarian. Reporting to the Head of Adult Services, the successful individual will provide technology including: software applications, Web 2.0 applications, iPads, mobile and other apps, other technologies and research database training to users of the Grande Prairie Public Library. The Emerging Technologies Librarian will take the lead in implementing new technologies and databases for the Library. This Librarian will also have a focus on collections and services in the area of audiovisual materials and the French Language Resource Centre. The hours of work include a 35 hour week (Monday to Friday) (8 hours of reference service per week) with one evening worked per week and approximately every 7th weekend.

Qualifications

  • Master of Library Science from an ALA-accredited program
  • Experience in a public library setting
  • Experience in the delivery of reference service and collection development
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Knowledge or experience identifying, evaluating and making recommendations concerning the use of current and emerging technologies available to support the delivery of services and resources. 

The Grande Prairie Public Library serves the City of Grande Prairie (one of the fastest growing cities in Canada, pop. 55,000) and is the Resource Centre for the Peace Library System.  It operates with a budget of $2.1 million and has a staff of 30 FTEs.  With our move to a new facility in June 2009, it is an exciting time to join our staff. Job Title: Assistant Manager, Customer Services

The Grande Prairie Public Library invites applications for the full-time, permanent position of Assistant Manager, Customer Services.  This position will commence on June 3, 2013.

Position

The Grande Prairie Public Library is seeking an innovative, flexible and resourceful individual to assume the position of Assistant Manager, Customer Services.  Under the supervision of the Manager, Customer Services, the Assistant Manager is responsible for hiring, training and supervising Pages; assisting with Circulation duties; coordinating and overseeing the proctoring of exams; booking library meeting rooms; and maintaining and distributing staff schedules.  This position includes regular Circulation shifts and occasional weekend and evening supervision of the Customer Services Department.  There will also be opportunities to fill in at the Library’s Information Desk as needed.

Basic Requirements

  • A Library Technology Diploma
  • Three years of experience in a public library setting
  • Proven computer (Word, Excel, Outlook) and numeracy skills

Important Skills

  • Highly organized and attentive to detail in a multi-tasking environment
  • Exceptional interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Ability to supervise teen staff and to serve patrons of all ages
  • Ability to deal with problem situations with creativity, tact and diplomacy
  • Customer service experience
